Baguio General Hospital to train MMSU-COM clinical clerks

July 10, 2018

The Baguio General Hospital (BGH) will provide residency training on surgery to the incoming clinical clerks of MMSU College of Medicine (COM) starting August this year.

This was made possible through a memorandum of agreement signed between Dr. Ricardo B. Runez, medical center chief of the BGH and Medical Center (BGH&MC) and MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis on June 19.

BGH&MC is a Level III teaching and learning retained hospital of the Department of Health which delivers a wide range of medical services to the people of Benguet and nearby provinces.

The agreement also serves as MMSU’s response to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) memorandum no. 18 series of 2016, which urges all higher education institutions in the country that offer doctor of medicine program to formally affiliate with hospitals that have accredited residency training in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics.

As an affiliate hospital of MMSU, the BGH&MC will coordinate with the university on all matters related to the activities of the medical clerks pursuant to the policies of the Board of Medicine under the Professional Regulation Commission.

MMSU will also work closely with the BGH&MC in terms of providing continuous education and training to the COM clinical clerks.
